They say it’s the little things in life that make a difference. So before you head out the door in your tailored suit and neatly pressed dress shirt, consider completing your look with the following fashion accessories (with suggested price points):
- Cuff links - a great, inexpensive way to stand out, cuff links come in a variety of choices; popular options include silver with onyx or mother-of-pearl ($100 - $150).
- Analog watch - dump the digital 1990’s timepiece and go with a conservative, but stylish choice here. If you can’t afford to go the brand name route as yet (Cartier, Patek Phillipe, Baume & Mercier) a simple sub-$150 will do just fine. Opt for a steel or silver band or a leather strap, but suggest you avoid gold - it may be considered a bit too flashy for work.
Silk tie - a must-have for any formal occasion and the perfect accessory to round up your shirt and suit. Ties in either solid colors or one with a simple geometric pattern are perfectly acceptable, as long as it helps bring the look come together ($90+).
- Leather belt - your wardrobe should include at least one black and one brown belt made of genuine leather. Avoid reversible’s, and choose a buckle that is stylish but not overstated. Finally, ensure both your belt and shoes are color-coordinated ($100).
- Leather wallet - go with a traditional palm-size or slightly larger to carry inside a suit jacket, but always made of genuine top grain leather. Remember though that this is not a file drawer, so resist storing your lunch receipts and spare change in here; if you prefer to go the minimalist look, see item (6) below ($125+).
- Money clip - a classic touch to avoid the “wallet bulge”, especially if you only carry cash and no more than a couple of plastic cards. Stainless silver is a great choice that you can top off with a little personalization in the form of initials ($75).
- Sunglasses - a good pair of shades are not only practical, they’re stylish too. Try a few different styles and lenses until you find the perfect pair - just don’t insist on wearing them indoors ($150+).
